Why all infrastructure decisions are taken by men?
I am not trying to create a man V/S women divide. What I
observe happening is in most of the families man is the breadwinner of the
family.
He is the one who brings in the financial resources and
infrastructure assets. Therefore it is observed that most of the decisions
around money and infrastructure are taken by men.
Are women so dumb or inadequate or incapable that whoever
earns the money also can have the authority to make the decisions?
It is naturally coded in our minds that softer roles like
nurturing, caring, cooking, and cleaning are the domain of women. Whereas harder
roles like decisions around money, and infrastructure are taken around by men.
Women feel left out when they are not included in
these processes and feel although it is my home and my children why it is why I
am left out of these decisions.
Just because men are physically stronger, they feel all
the decisions around money and infrastructure belong to them.
The women have to ask how much to spend, what to spend,
and what areas to spend. This becomes an unfair transaction between the men and
women
If I were to reflect on my life context although my
mother and I both have been earning members of the family's major decisions around
spending money have been validated and checked out by the men of the family.
This pattern continues till a more evolutionary mindset revolves around what authority and ownership are held by each gender and implemented by each gender.

A hit at the patriarchal mindset- yes
ReplyDeleteIn an episode of the TV show led by Aamir khan, Satyamev Jayate, Activist Kamla Bhasin ji had rightly pointed out the injustice in placing the honour and respect of a woman and her entire family/community, quite literally in her vagina. She also spoke about how much patriarchy harms the emotional development of men. Because the pressure to 'be a man,' in a patriarchal society is unhealthy.
