The Heart of Giving or Not Giving

Image
When we see beggars on the road or people asking for help there are one little ring in the mind which asks us whether I should give or not give. The logic in me asks myself the question how deserving the person is, how fake the person is, or do I want to promote the act of asking amongst a certain category of people (like sadhus). There is also another kind of people who are very large hearted feeling-oriented and will give irrespective of whether the asking is justified or not. Often times I ask myself a question why do we give people who are capable of doing hard work and generating their own resources. There is a whole industry that runs on creating fake stories and popups that promotes the task of begging such instances make my heart boil and I tell myself no way  shall I give irrespective of who the person is.  But on the second thought am I also being unfair and insensitive to the inequalities around me in our society definitely there are people who are much more r...

The Myths of Equality

I think all parents, all teachers, all systems whether family or academic go through this dilemmas how fair I am or how just I am to the world. I have not promised equality to my clients or role holders yet there is an expectation from the self and the others that one should be equal. At times there are instances where two siblings are poles apart in their competencies and orientation to life. Yet the parents want to be equal to them. There are students who are different in their intellectual and academic capabilities yet teachers have to be equal to them. There are employees in organisation who do not work exactly like each other yet the bosses have to be equal to them. So what is the myth of equality are we perpetrating or promising the world. It creates lot of injustice unfairness and hurt at the emotional physiological and social levels. It is important that we educate and orient the world towards existing differences of all kinds and all types. There will never be a situ...

What is fair and what is unfair in Dealing with the Abuser

Image
Often times we come across instances where there is emotional abuse, physical abuse or sexual abuse.   In our society it is easy to justify acts of the perpetrator by forgiving him or her by saying its okay or it’s not a big deal. So what is the justification of how big or small the crime is? In order of severity emotional abuse is generally forgotten or forgiven, physical abuse is handled in a mild way but sexual abuse becomes big trauma for the victim to handle. The victim herself or himself is so shattered and confused and humiliated and ashamed that he or she does not have the courage or the conviction to take up the stand or report to the authority. Therefore we end up living in a world where abuser acts are forgiven and forgotten but they leave a deep scar in the mind of the victim. How much punishment is justified is generally not address mostly by men. Women feel extremely hurt and shaky because it is happening to their identity as the weaker gender and the world is no...

What does it mean to be to grown up?

Often times growth is associated with chronological age. So there is lot of pride in believing how big I am or how tall I am every birthday I cross. Few times do I reflect on how much I have grown in terms of my actions, beliefs, values systems and reponses to the context? We stay in a myth of growth with every generation but little do we realise that the finest level of awareness can bring about a response or an action which is better than the last moment. This kind of awareness requires immense amount of sensitivity, intuition and a constantly feeling barometer which enables to measures whether I have grown taller, shorter or I am the same. Often times I have realised that I have not grown but gone aeons behind from where I stand today. So what is the trigger, the motivation and the clue that guides me in my journey of life? I do not wish to pass a value judgement on human beings who do not grow or just struck there. But I would like to offer an invitation for each one ...
