Children or No Children?

All families in ancient times celebrated the birth of a child with a lot of excitement. Earlier there were a hundred children in a family-like Kauravas. Then the number reduced to 10 and 20, then 5 or 6 siblings in a family, then only 1 or 2 siblings. There is a marked reduction in numbers in a family. Now a single child is most preferred by parents because they want to give him the best. Parents cannot cope with the demands of more children and family dynamics raising more children. Earlier there were joint families, now nuclear families have become a reality. So now the number is inverse in terms of children each family has. Is it a social phenomenon an emotional phenomenon or just the way beings evolve in different generations? Now there are families or couples who say that they are so happy with each other that a child becomes a burden and additional responsibility in their lives. They do not believe in extending the heritage or the culture of the family to the next g...

Why do we run away from Grief?

It is commonly felt or understood that happiness and smiley faces are positive human emotions but sadness and crying are negative. It is a social coding that has been passed onto us from generations together and any kind of grief is taboo or negative. As human beings we are a bundle of all kinds of emotions I feel very sad at people who tell me that they had only a very very happy childhood, growing up adult, and adulthood. They have not experienced any trauma or struggle that makes them human beings that can handle any difficulty in life. There are also people who believe that sad movies they would not like to visit. Sad events or grief make us stronger and bolder in life to be able to see human emotions in totality. Hence, I cannot relate to people who only go to the very happy-go-lucky and fun evoking experiences of life. I would like to ask them what are they running from and what they are missing from the life of totality of human emotions. Even episodes of anger...

English Medium or Vernacular?

This thought has been very well dealt with in the movie English Vinglish directed by Gauri Shinde. The whole idea of knowing languages and learning in your own mother tongue becomes much more useful to which the person can relate to life long. The craze of studying English and knowing English as a universal language has been dumped on us by Britishers and we still are obligated to them for this misfortune. I strongly believe that even if you know English as a primary language all literature that is written in your mother tongue is much more authentic and sensitive and captures the imagination and knowledge of the reader. Yes, one advantage of English being the mother tongue of the world has its own advantages of standardized inputs and data. However, human beings are born with the ability to capture and grasp multiple languages and the more they know the more fulfilled they feel with themselves. Knowledge of foreign languages is forced into the curriculum of many school...

Is Staff there forever or Transient?

The conversation in most of the social, professional, and personal groups is around “Oh God! How to find the right people?” Earlier times there was a culture in homes and offices that staff stayed forever. Loyalty to the bosses of the organization was the primary motive and people felt very guilty ditching the boss or the owner of the house. There were emotional messages that were sent to them about how much is invested in their careers and jobs and therefore the subordinate has to feel obligated and stuck to that role or job forever. Earlier also the world was in separate regional boundaries, countries, and continents. Now it has become an open world and open economy where movement and transition have become very easy.  People feel stuck, bored, and suffocated in the same job if they are there for years. In the aspiration to move ahead, the loyalty factor is not considered at all but the person's need is primary. Hence, it has become a world with a lot of opport...
