Success v/s Achievement
In the evolution of human beings, there are different
parameters that make us feel that we have arrived or gained something in life.
Every person has a different parameter to measure his
growth, trajectory, and the way he has evolved.
Some people do not even put in that thought or reflection
to measure what has been my growth path. They just live life in a
consumption mode and believe life is fun and enjoyment.
I strongly believe that as thinking or feeling human
being I would like to reflect on what are my achievements which measure the
success at the end of the day.
Achievements can be measured in terms of different
activities like profession, business, education, and professional.
Success is experienced by ethical standards, moral
standards, values that I hold, and what do I leave behind at the end of the day.
Hence, although I may have achieved a lot in different
spheres of life it may yet not make me feel successful because success is a
holistic feeling whereas achievements are individual activity base.
Each individual has a different mindset that nurtures
either achievements or success in their own domains of life.
Success means the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
Achievement means a thing done successfully with effort,
skill, or courage.
Where do you locate yourself on this scale?

By your definition of success and achievement
ReplyDeleteI would say at my age and stage of life I am 8 on 10 as 10 on ten can only happen when the Soul is liberated .. that requires first
The complete surrender of Ego to higher and with effort the ‘way of living right !! ‘That is to say constant awareness of yourself !! So both effort and goal to achieve the Higher is what is now left !! As the desire of duties and pleasures are now fulfilled !!
And this has often been my shortcoming...how do others perceive your achievements and how successful you are as a human being? Unfortunately, I know so many people who think they have arrived because they have achieved big things but are not successful as human beings. Purnima.

ReplyDeleteNice definitions!
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I fluctuate between highs and lows. Happy with myself .... but not all are happy with me and with what I am doing to eke a livelihood.
Achievement is so much linked with monetary gains. My involvement in the NGO sector gives me a lot of satisfaction and happiness. But the remunerations fail to match up with the wants/asks/ demands that are placed on me. It's true that money can't buy it all... but a lot of things- only money can buy. Can't negate that fact.
So, I may be successful as a human being (At least I assess me that ways) - but I haven't achieved anything (material means) that is noteworthy.

And even if we deny material attainment continues to rule all definitions of success.
