Am I only my resource?
In times of Covid where we are all locked into our own homes, offices with minimum access to the outside world I struggle to make two ends meet.
This is not in terms of money, but in buying things for
cooking, to domestic work, to looking after the old and the young, all chores
come on me.
I become my only source of effectiveness, efficiency,
support, and help. In such times how do I create alternative methods or creative
solutions to do my job.
The internet becomes a huge source of ideas inputs and
ideologies from the home we can learn from. All channels are flooded with lots
of information process methods to deal with the trauma.
I think Indians have been much more creative because of the
diversity we have in terms of age, culture, regional preferences so on, and multiple
ideas and new ways to deal with this phenomenon.
I also believe especially in our culture, that there are
others to help. We may not get out of our homes but if we ask for help in our
country and culture it is almost considered an ethical moral or societal
duty.
I also discover that there were tonnes of services like
tiffin services, medical services, and others which were available at free of
cost to everybody and anybody.
Hence, I am blessed that I am born in such a country that
I don’t remain my only resource.
At times there is an overdose of help which makes you
feel angry and irritating but yet supported, touched, and facilitated.
Hence, to stay on the island on I am my only resource
becomes a personal choice and not a contextual reality.
Societies have emerged so that human beings can help each
other without any expectations.
So the choice I have to make is that I am stuck on an island with no human touch or do I expand my range to include others so that we can deal with the situation as a collective issue.

DeleteWow Nayanaben- this post has surfaced the collectivism vs. individualism concepts- each having benefits and each with pitfalls. And as demonstrated in the new normal- it is te 'hybrid' model that works best!
