What is the Place that we call Home?

Most of the time every place we visit gives you the vibrations and energy of a home. However, at times some places are so negative that you almost wish that you never stepped into them.

When we go on holidays also, we seek rejuvenation and renewal of ourselves. We are bored and stuck in our own structures which we call home.

So, you see many times people are running away from homes all the time. However, I feel that I would always wish to come back to a home that has the energy of the relationship of the infrastructure and all the domestic processes that are part of the home.

As we grow older there is a collective feeling that we should get out of our homes to really enjoy life.

The burden of a few years left looms large on each one of us and hence we wish to make the most of the precious time that is left.

For me, the comfort and peace of returning to the home are larger than the thrills of a five-star holiday.

This feeling varies from individual to individual. I am also passionate about seeing the world exploring the world going on top of the mountain, exploring the forests and jungles and riverside to feel that peace and tranquility.

So, I wonder what it is that is the real home for me running away from it or returning into it with all its smallness, vulnerabilities, and chaos.

If I were to describe my home and my feelings, I love the fact that I have my own people, my own servants, my own food, and my own social contacts.

I miss all of this when I am out of the home but it may not be true for everybody because exploring out of the home into new terrain is also exciting, entertaining, and adventurous.

So, when my husband asked me to go on repeating holiday, I would say no, No more holiday. I would like to have a gap between these two experiences which are inside the home and outside the home.

Some places are such that even it is not your own house you feel the comfort and warmth of a home whereas some places are good for short-term adventures and holidays.

Where do you place yourself in this spectrum which is sometimes home and sometimes outside the home?

  1. I step out of a home of 2, and step into a home of 90, every day.

Life within and outside home, in routine life, falls in the context of a home, ever since (7 years+) I have joined this workplace.

At home, too, there is another home--- the one where I am with me... in my bedroom, by my book shelf.

I love going on long long drives--- me and my scooter-- and my son.
While working in the Thar desert in the initial stage of my career, that small room in the small village on the Indo Pak border, with no facility whatsoever- say for example, pucca roads, personal vehicle, phone lines, electricity , piped water, green vegetables -- But with time, I had developed an ownership on that room, as my home.
After marriage, when I initially came to Gujarat, stayed in a one bedroom house in a village near Kheda, with my new extended family- it took time - and gradually it became my home.

Yes, home is where heart is. And, time sorts it out for us.

About the spectrum and where I find myself in it, well, I am more of an outgoing person. Short trips, explorations and traveling excite me a lot.... how much I am able to execute - is altogether a different story.
