Struggles between Self and Situation
In all our lives we try to be at the top of the situation and not get consumed by it. If we are able to do that then we become masters of our own situations.
The situation is challenging enough to absorb all the
difficulties the self has to go through to be able to survive and sustain in a
meaningful way.
However, most of the time we discover that the self
becomes so weak and so vulnerable that it gets consumed by all situations.
Every individual has a different capacity and a different propensity to deal
with situations. They become so small or large that they get consumed by
the situation itself.
If I were to reflect on my own orientation most of the
time I do not allow the situation to overpower the self. But, in doing so I
have to invest in my own self in terms of my thinking, my confidence, and the
belief I have in myself in dealing with the situation.
Every individual is made different and responds
differently to their context. At times I get irritated by the people who are so
vulnerable and so weak that they get totally consumed by whatever is happening
around them.
But if I were to empathize with them I may discover
that they have not got the opportunity and wherewithal to invest in themselves.
Hence they are unable to respond in a way that they get
consumed or overpowered by the situation.
Their life context and social circumstances have not
allowed them to flower with confidence and capabilities so I am nobody to get
irritated or judge people who are unable to stand for themselves.
Even in growing up years if I reflect as a child, I was
the one being the last sibling I was the one who had to surrender and give up
to the people in authority.
Only later in life, the fighter in me come alive and I
realised that if I do not fight I will only be consumed and captured by all
situations.
Hence, it took a while to discover the fighter who wishes
to be in charge of all the situations.
How do you encounter your struggles via the self
and situation?

ReplyDeleteTo take every giant leap forward, we need to take a few steps back for a while. The same holds true for a sling shot--- we have to pull the slingshot back, take an aim and then aim for the target.
ReplyDeleteThe point I am trying to make is that the more we are aware of our selves... our triggers, our weaknesses, strengths... the better the response is, to any situation is, be it small or big.
I have myself observed, that the more I am focused inwards, the better the response is. Our staff development counselor at Visamo Kids always trained us to be focussed on that. Not that I am totally aware of myself, esp the pitfalls, but the learnings are going strong.
