How do our own Karma affects our own lives
This topic sounds very spiritual and philosophical. However, in day-to-day life, we encounter each moment different situations and outcomes which is the result of our karma.
What is Karma? Karma is something that one has done in
his lifetime as an act of goodness. We are answerable to ourselves through our
own karmas. Karma also leads to an effect of consequences and events in life.
Many times we tell ourselves or blame our own karmas for
something good not happening. People also attribute causes to religions,
rituals, and worshipping gods. These are the people who would go and worship the
god every day so that they benefit from his karma.
However, there are some people who are more focused on
doings of the self and at each moment is in questioning and an inquiry mode
whether he is doing something right or wrong.
These people do not blame gods or temples if anything
wrong happens. Some people also attribute the consequences to luck. Many times
we end up saying bad luck or good luck.
However deep down I believe that luck has a marginal role in whatever is happening in your life. It is more due to our efforts hard work and
some basic competencies and skills to be possessed.
It is easy to get away by saying bad luck in case of a bad
event. However, I would hold some act or decision responsible for that event to
occur.
If we go back to our heritage and mythology stories. Karma
has had a major role in every teaching-learning and consequence. I am not
talking about sin and morality which fall under the religious domain.
I believe that each one defines his own personal karma
and universal karma. It differs from system to system and cultural to
cultural. Hence it is not appropriate to blame somebody for his karma. Each
one's definition boundaries and meaning differ from time to time.
Hence it would be unfair to pass a judgment on anybody
for the outcomes in his life.
So, it would be worthwhile posing this question to
yourself and being answerable to yourself instead of the gods and the temples.

I wonder how belief in Karma intertwines with superstitious beliefs. If a couple followed all horoscope matching and other rituals but still end up getting divorced, will they say bad karma or bad stars/fate?

Agree, we need to be answerable to us, first. Accountable and responsible for our deeds. By this I mean, I should also take responsibility of dealing with the situations I am dealing with. I personally feel that acknowledging the karma of this life or past lives, is a way to make us more responsible for our actions in current times. No matter how much we feel guilty, the past remains unchanged. No matter how much we are anxious, the future is beyond our reach. But we can certainly do a lot by acting in the 'NOW'.
